A message from our brave leader, Chair, Elsie Walker: Dear SU Faculty and Staff, You are all invited to our next informal, open meeting for SU's Women's Forum (SUWF) on Wednesday, May 17, from 1-2pm. The meeting will take place in Holloway Hall, room 119. We scheduled this meeting on Reading Day in the hope that more people can attend. If you can only come for part of the time, that’s still great. This is a chance for us all to chat, mingle, have a few light refreshments, and share ideas. Having established our overarching goals (see below), and having run a very successful conference earlier this year (“Hearing Women’s Voices”), we now feel the next logical step is to open up the conversation again. We would love to hear from anyone and everyone who has ideas about where and how we should focus our time and energy. You can find out more about our committee members and vision on our website: http://suwf.weebly.com Many faculty and staff members have expressed support for and interest in what the Women’s Forum does, and we’d now like to recruit more people from our campus community to be involved. We thank those of you who have already volunteered to work with us, and we’re very excited about broadening our scope through a more diverse group of representatives. We want to ensure that all facets of our campus have some representation. So, please consider joining us for the meeting on May 17. I stress that we welcome all of you, and that our goals are entirely constructive and positive. If you can give anything from 5 minutes to an hour to chip in some ideas, we’d greatly appreciate it. We’ll run the meeting so everyone who wants to speak can easily do so. We’ll also distribute pieces of paper so you can comment anonymously if you’d prefer. I hope to see you there. When: Thursday February 2, 2017 at 2:00 pm EST What:"Important women's rights issues continue to be at the forefront of the news. Individuals and scholars alike require quality resources as they seek to contribute to (or change) the mainstream narrative which exists today. This webinar will provide insight into women's history and the resources available for academic libraries. Hear from Molly Murphy MacGregor of the National Women's History Project. She'll share how her organization recognizes and celebrates the diverse and historic accomplishments of women by providing informational services and educational and promotional materials. Primary source archives allow scholars and researchers to trace the path of women's issues from the past to present, uncovering the stories behind the fight for equality-and the ongoing battle for the rights of women everywhere. Learn how Gale is providing academic libraries with resources to explore the difficulties and triumphs that have affected women, the foundations of women's movements, women's contributions to society, and the struggles that women continue to face today. With primary sources pulled from manuscripts, newspapers, periodicals, and more, researchers can discover firsthand how our past intimately shapes our future. " How: Register Online! With a new academic year beginning, we will be holding an open meeting for anyone who wishes to attend and add to the dialogue, hear future plans, or just meet others who are interested in actively addressing women’s issues and empowering those in our campus community who identify as female.
